A local newspaper dated 18/6/1917 refers to Captain The Reverend Arthur W Davies having recently been awarded the MC for conspicuous service in the field.

I'm having a struggle to find him in LG or Medal Cards and would be obliged if another pair of eyes could have a look in case I'm missing something obvious.

His medal card is there. At present, I'm not at a pc with editing software so can not reduce image to post, but if you look him up as Arthur W Davies (the W stands for William) and his unit as Chaplain of 53rd Division, you should find him. There is also information regarding address etc on the back of card.

My excuses for not finding him are

1) Tried various combinations with and withou Chaplain* in unit but I didn't try under full name and didn't expect it to be under 53rd Welch Div


2) Should have thought of looking after the date of the newspaper article (looked every Davies refrence for three months before that date!!)

Yes, I quite agree Ron. Looking at thr History of the 53rd Division I should think that he got it for his actions during 2nd Gaza in mid April although I cannot rule out some other attack. Shouls any anyone know for sure I would be obliged for the info.

He was born on the 16th January 1870 at Chesterton north Staffodshire, the son of Edward and Mary E Davies. In 1901 he married Dora Catherine Owen, daughter of the late Rev Hugh Owen of Corwen. He was educated at Handsworth College and entered the Ministry in 1896. He was a Wesleyan Methodist.

He is listed in the Methodist ministers lists for those who died in the work, as passing on in 1945.
