I was having a conversation with another Pal recently, and we spoke of the various Pals meetings we had attended. I said I was surprised at his description of a certain Pal, who I had always imagined as resembling his avatar.
So, do Pals resemble their avatars? Mine is a representation of my hairdo.

Yes...very much so.
I closely resemble a downcast Canadian, carved in stone, and best observed when under-lit!
Bruce
I also seem to be regularly surrounded by road works.

My avatar is Celtic captain Billy McNeil lifting the European Cup, the first time in British hands and the only time in Scotland. What he is doing is what I dreamt about doing as a kid. So looking like him no, wishing I could have copied him, very much so. There are plenty professional footballers who wish they could copy him, even Pele didn't lift it.

he wasnt good enough to get into a European Cup winners team, he had to make do with the World Cup where the opposition is a heck of a lot lower standard than those great European sides of the 60's

. He may have got a game for Celtic if they had subs at the time, a sort of guest appearance with 5 mins to go.

Is the two handed battle-axe an optional extra amongst today's clergy?

As a matter of interest, Odo, the likely commissioner of the Bayeux Tapestry, is shown frequently in 'impressive' situations. He is holding a club in the battle scenes as opposed to an edged weapon. Clergymen were not allowed to spill blood. Bludgeoning your enemy to death was apparently perfectly acceptable however.

Only difference was Pantani found it easy to climb mountains, I don't!
(As an aside on a team building excercise we were asked to write down 5 things that came into our heads when a persons name was mentionned. My team, on hearing my name, came up:
Light bulb, cue ball, Duncan Goodhew, Fester from the Adams Family and Pierre Luigi Collina the superstar Italian football ref.......I'm picking up a theme developing here)

Likewise Neil - a definite similarity there. By the way, nothing wrong with getting shirts from Next - only problem is my colour vision is a bit wonky so I manage to pair up some awful shirt and tie combos

[Edit - just realised that in that picture i'm wearing my old staff uniform - a lovely 100% polyester JJB tee-shirt! How's that for classy!]

Funnily enough, Neil and Barrie were two of the Pals I had in mind when starting this thread. Both of you bear a likeness to your relatives, Barrie uncannily so.
Makes you wonder what would happen if you superimposed modern dress onto the former generations. What will happen NEXT I wonder!!!
