On my Grandfather's Medal Roll Card the last number: A/No/844186 appears on it; does anyone know what this signifies please.
He was injured a number of times and was in the R.E. 179th Tunnelling Company

Hello Sima, and welcome to the Forum.
As it is the last number, I suspect it stands for "Army number". In the Great War each regiment and corps used its own numbering system, with numbers changing if a man swapped regiments, but in about 1920-21 they moved to a single Army-wide system of unique numbers, in which the block of number identified the regiment or corps. The RE's block was 1,842,001 to 2,303,000 so I suspect that the second / should be a 1.

IMHO you suspect correctly, it definitely looks like A/No.1844186 to me.
