That explains why there was a big thing made about the Sherwood Foresters at the Menin Gate that night with introductory words after The Last Post and mayors of East Midlands towns/cities in their regalia laying wreaths. The new monument was not mentioned.

I was honoured to be just one of the special guests for the unveiling of the new memorial held at the Tyne Cot on Saturday. It was a very moving ceremony with many dignitaries from Zonnebeke, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire with the Deputy Prime Minister of Belgium also attending.
Major Cotterill, Cliff Housley and Eddie Edwards from the RHQ at Chilwell in Nottingham and i think i can say, these were the gentlemen who put a great deal of effort into making sure this day went well.
There was the planting of a young Oak Tree brought specially from Sherwood Forest in Nottinghamshire and a stone plaque was also unveiled at the Zonnebeke Museum.
Parties of the 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment being present with the Colour Party, the Commanding Officer and many serving and retired officers.
Menin Gate was packed solid on the Friday evening with the wreath laying from old comrades and Lord Mayor's of both Counties.
The organisers can be very proud of themselves, thank you for showing the pictures Robert they are excellent, i left my camera in the boot of my car in Zonnebeke.
A fabulous occasion and something i will remember for the rest of my life, coundn't hold back the tears. BRONNO.

Robert,

Thankyou for the marvelous pictures, I received an invitation but unfortunately could not get, however your pictures have made up for it.

Kind regards, Cliff.

Thank you for the photos- they are excellent.

A very fitting tribute to the 11,409 men of the Sherwood Foresters who fell during the Great War.

Incidentally, the memorial was unveiled on the day of the anniversary that a possible relative of mine, Serjeant Ralph Bagshaw of the 11th Battalion, was killed on 24th October 1918.

May all the boys rest in peace
