Good morning all,

My query isn't actually related to WW1 but I'm still hopeful that someone can help with it. It is simply this: I am researching one William Thomas Macgregor Davies whose occupation on his son's marriage certificate is given as Sgt Major end HTP Regt [ he is also deceased at the time of the marriage which was 1903]...I have no clue which regiment this refers to and despite searching on google have been unable to find out. Any help with this would be appreciated.

Linda

Addendum....I have now manage to find a copy of the marriage banns/ record for the above which shows that William Thomas Macgregor Davies' regt was not HTP as I had been told but it looks like the first two initials are P. H. followed by two others which are not so easy to make out. I was going to upload the document but it's too large apparently, I did try....smile.gif

Have you tried looking for him in WO97 at Kew? I think Sgt Majors were also in the Army List.

I did have a brief look but will do so again....if I could just find out the regiment it may help but I can't make out all four initials only the first two which I think are P.H.?.?...they lived in Middlesex when the son got married but the father William Thomas was deceased acccording to the son's marriage cert so don't actually know if that's relevant.

Hussar Regiments had various Royal titles:

11th were Prince Albert's Own Hussars
10th were Prince of Wales Own Royal Hussars

May be the 11th ?

Many thanks for that,I'll look into that. Would it be possible for me to send you a copy of the marriage cert showing the regiment ref I spoke of?
