Remembered today, with Gratitude.

Private 19897 John William Tuck 2nd Battalion, Border Regiment.

John was born in 1887 to his parents Mary and William Tuck a Baker at 32, Halliwell Street, Salford in Lancashire. By 1897 the family have moved to 4, Alice Street, Pendleton, Salford. In the 1901 March Census John now aged 13 is working in the local Bleach Works. John married Annie Hudson at Southend-on-Sea in 1910.

John arrived in France on 8th September 1915 joining his Battalion a few days later.

On Friday 26th October 1917 the first day of the Second Battle of Passchendaele, 2nd Border’s part of 20 Brigade, 7th Division attacked south of the Menin Road toward Gheluvelt. John was wounded in this action and sadly died 2 days later on 28th he was 32 years old.

John is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium.
