Captain William Sinclair Tuck (MiD) Canadian Field Artillery.
William was born on 11th March 1893 in Oakville, Ontario, the only child of Mary Jane nee Davis and John Clarence Tuck, Superintendent of the Anthes Foundry Company. As William grew up he became well known as an all round outdoor sportsman who excelled at Hockey.
When William enlisted aged 21 as a Private soldier on 30th November 1914 he was employed by the Langmuir Manufacturing Company a Student at Upper Canada College and a member of their Cadet force.
Whilst undergoing basic training he was promoted to Bombardier, William departed for England as part of the second contingent of 4th Artillery Brigade in the May of 1915. Shortly after his arrival he was promoted to Corporal and prior to departing our shores for France he was promoted to Sergeant.
In January 1916 he received his commission to Lieutenant, 2nd Division W2C Trench Mortar Battery and shortly before his death received confirmation of promotion to Captain in charge of 9th Field Artillery Battery.
William was Killed in action aged just 23 on 30th October 1916, he was posthumously Mentioned in Despatches on 13th November for Gallant and Distinguished Service in the Field.
He is buried in Courcelles-Au-Bois Communal Cemetery Extension, France and also remembered on the Roll of Honour of the Upper Canada College.
