Remembered today, with Gratitude.

Driver 1727 Harold Tuck 1st Australian Light Horse B Troop, B Squadron, Australian Mounted Division.

The son of John and Agnes Tuck, Harold was born in 1897 at Seven Hills, Parramatta, N.S.W.

He enlisted into 11th reinforcements on 18th September 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W., giving his profession as Horse Breaker. He embarked from Sydney 23rd October 1915 aboard HMAT S.S. Hawkes Bay.

In the early hours of the morning of 31st October 1917 whilst driving a limber, an enemy aeroplane flew over and dropped a bomb, 23 year old Harold received sever wounds to both legs and was admitted to 5th Mounted Brigade Field Ambulance. On the following day 1st November 1917 Harold who had been transferred to the New Zealand Mounted Field Ambulance at Beersheba died of his wounds. He was originally buried in the West corner of Gum Grove Cemetery the funeral being officiated by Captain J. Boardman (Chaplain)

Harold is now buried in Beersheba War Cemetery, Israel.

Hi Stephen,
I think Scottie is probably right, at least one of the reasons was that at the end of the war there were so many small or isolated burials that something had to be done to make their maintenance a more viable proposition.
