not, to my knowledge, officially, but very possibly an informal arrangement involving cash or favours.

Hmm thanks I am reading a book about the 2nd battalion AIF called over the top .Written by a vet there and he was talking as a l/cpl that this CSM had one ,I was thinking maybe a RSM just might but a CSM no ,possiblely more than likely your idea is more to the point
Thanks

on the subject of batmen, were they paid a seperate amount along with their regular army pay. the reason i ask is , in a diary i have, the officer in question makes out a budget of sorts and includes an amount for his batman. he also makes a remark about the higher cost of batmen in his new unit compared to elsewhere.
mike.
pardon the little h/jack.

Mike no problem at all (west ozzie 11th/28th battalion man?) I have wondered for some time as to the batman for officers how much was he a servant ,compared to a well ,supplied helper for an officers horse and extra equipment that officers had
thanks

hi mc, my main interest is the royal dublin fusiliers, who my grandad was attached to. he was a boer war veteran who rejoined in `14 into kitcheners mob. he landed at suvla with the dubs so that gives him some oz credits!!. i also have an interest in the 51st batt aif [which was formed from some of the 11/28 , one of my mates, uncle , lieut c.w.k sadlier was awarded a vc during the 2nd battle of villiers bretoneux in april `18.
take care.

Mike thanks for speedy reply .I assumed mostly wrongly that having a location of Perth West Australia that obviously(not) you had a affiliation for the WA battalions ,my user name is a bit more obvious I collect mainly British as oz stuff is more expensive to buy
.But given a choice the 27th battalion is my choice of Australian Units .Not sure if you know JB militaria in Perth probably i do quite a bit of business with john and david
thanks and best , nice group
