At 05.30 hrs the Battalion, with no artillery support, entered Sebourg and were made very welcome by the villagers. 'C' and 'D' Companies moved to the hills beyond and came under heavy Machine Gun fire.
Upwards of 50 men would die as a result of the action.
35 men are buried at Sebourg British Cemetery. 3 Men are buried at Valencienes Communal cemetery. A further 9 men died of wounds probably sustained in this attack.

Artillery was got up during the night and at 05.30 on 5th,'C' and 'D' Companies attacked under a barrage and took the heights with few casualties and no deaths.
