The base of the churchyard memorial has this verse, but does anyone recognise it?

It is quoted on the Burton War Memorial (is that yours?) - see here
Also, in St.Andrews Church of Scotland, Gibraltar, hangs an epitaph to Soldiers of Highland Regiments who made that supreme sacrifice.

Graham Yes that's the one. I have a photo but could not get it to load. Interesting site you found. The slight difference in one word between the B-in-K and Gibraltar versions is curious.
