I have just downloaded my Grandfathers Medals Roll Index card and there are a couple of things on it I do not understand.
a)Under "Theatres of War first served the entry is : (2B) Balkans I understand the Balkans as Galipolli
but what could the (2B) be.

The (2B) Is the code for the Theatre of War, in this case 2 = Balkans and B = Gallipoli etc.
From Army Order 20 of 1919 and later amendments:
2. Balkan Theatre.—To include all operations in:—
(a.) Greek Macedonia, Serbia and Bulgaria, from 5th October, 1915.
(b.) Gallipoli and islands of Aegean Sea from 25th April, 1915.

Thanks mate . I had a feeling the 2B was for galipolli .
Not much more I can find out about my grand father as it looks like his records are amongst the "Burnt Records"
I know he was captured in France later and which POW camp he was in, But do not know his active service between galipolli and and the capture.
My mother said he was wounded at Galipolli but I cannot find any records on that either.
