There is an audio slideshow of how Frederick Potts won his V C on their internet site. There was also a piece on last nights BBC South Today about him.

I found the link and posted it before listening to it. It is very interesting. For example, I never realised the scrub caught fire, to make the situation even worse.

From boyhood, when I was given a copy of "Fifty Amazing Stories of the Great War" and I remember the chapter "How Trooper Potts Won the VC at Burnt Hill". Though first-person narrative I think it was written on his behalf, or at his dictation if you like, by another hand.
Still have the volume up in the attic! Cracking good stories, some of them.
