Managed to get ''The Battle of The Somme--A Topographical History''
earlier today on ebay for £2.50, realy pleased about that and looking
forward to reading it.
plus it goes a little way to easing the blow of paying out for windows
XP that i have still not received as yet.

Yes , a great book. A tremendous companion when you are on the Somme and also good to dip into at random.

I have a copy of this but it is entitled 'When the Barrage Lifts'
Same subtitle, author and forward.
I assume that it is the same book and I wonder why the title was changed.

It is the same book. It's just one of those things, probably an attempt to breath fresh life into an older title by renaming it. It's a bit annoying though, as I've accrued several books in duplicate form because of similar happenings.

A new edition, heavily updated with corrections, is due out in the next year or so.

I'm about to ask what is more than likely a dumb question)
what sort of info are we talking about, when you say heavily updated with
corrections?.
cheers

There are a large number of errors in both editions, which the author has corrected for this new edition which also includes expanded info on many sites; much of the info on the battlefields and cemeteries today was gathered in the early 1980s, so is 20+ years out of date.
The book should have been out this year, I think, but has been put back to 2005-06?

It's a fine book, I have the old title, but by place alphabetically so probably not something you want to read straight through.
