Hello all:
Can anyone point me to a good book that discusses British / Indian Army troop locations and/or events on the Northwest Frontier during the Great War?
And, were any British troops stationed in Afghanistan during the war?

The problems with the frontier tribes didn't end just because the Great War had started. The usual problems continued and small expeditions were undertaken.
The only book that I am aware of that mentions these years is 'The Story & Gallantry of the Northwest Frontier 1849-1947' by R.V.E. Hodson. It is covered by 20 pages so if you want anything in particular I can have a look.

Afghanistan was an independent nation and therefore British presence stopped at the Khyber Pass. However British troops entered Afghanistan during the 3rd Afghan War of 1919.

Afghanistan remained neutral during the war and British officers and diplomats were barred from entering Afghanistan. Any formal documents or messages were handed over at the Indian end of the Khyber Pass.

Those soldiers undertaking expeditions during WW1 received WW1 campaign medals, as per going to any other theatre of war. The campaigns prior to 1914 and 1919- were recognised with India GSMs with appropriate bar.
