Did anything happen in the Sudan in WW1?

In 1916 a British column, including a small RFC detachment, advanced into the Sudan in response to a revolt led by Ali Dinar, the Sultan of Darfur. See Hew Strachan's The First World War - Volume I: To Arms, ISBN 0 19 820877 4.

This force also included an Australian company of the new Camel Corps which operated their for some time.

Camel Corps officers where attached there during the war to Egyptian units mostly Egpytian camel corps units to patrol and buy new animals for the corps.

Formed Melbourne 1916. Equipped with three armoured cars built at the Vulcan Engineering Works in South Melbourne, a 50 HP Daimler, a 60 HP Mercedes and a 50 HP Minerva. All were armoured and the Daimler and Mercedes were armed with Colt machine guns. Departed Melbourne Katuna. Fought against the Senussi in the Sudan and Western Desert. Also known as 1st Armoured Car Battery. Became 1st Light Car Patrol 3 December 1916.

The 8th Hants originally part of 163 brigade, were sent there on "Aid to the Civil Power" duties, following the end of the Palestien campaign, in 1918 didn't come home until mid 1919.
