Great War Forum > Miscellaneous > Classic Threads

museumtom

The complete list of existing awards to men, be it a certificate, medal plaque etc held by myself and other forum members are on page 14 of this topic. The entire list is managed by the tireless efforts of Kevinaka1888. The list got a bit corrupted when guys posted awards and then deleted their post so the original reference is lost. It has now been brought up to date again by Kevin. If you decide to delete your posting please let Kevin know so he can update the list and keep it current.
Remember this is not a wants topic, there is nothing offered for sale here. This list contains awards, medals etc to ww1 personnel held at the time of posting by forum pals who should be applauded for doing so. I had asked some medal dealers to add their list, they talked the talk but did not walk the walk. If you wish to contact anyone regarding the items in their possession and come to some arrangement then the best of luck to you.
I will say it again, there is nothing for sale here.
Finally a big thank you to the tireless efforts of Kevin for keeping it all listed in alphabetical order.

The complete list is on page 14.

Regards.
Tom, and Kevin.

Come on guys and Gals, you dont have to say if its a death plaque, medal, set of medals or wound badge. You dont have to give any rank , number or unit, just the names on the items in your collection. You dont even need to give the first name just the initial/s if you wish.
By putting your list on here does not mean they are for sale or trade. It does not mean you dont want them or that you are looking for someone to make an offer. It just means that an award physically exists with a forum member.
This is a good thing and I would not suggest the idea anywhere else except on this forum. In the spirit of comraderie.

Feck ....I said they were medals, sorry I did not mean that.
If you would like to participate you dont have to say rank unit number age whether he survived or not. You need not even say if it is a medal death plaque, swb, or anything else. Just give the sirname and the first initial.

Hi,

Well done to all of you that have listed the names on your Medals, Plaques, SWB, etc. I think this is an excellent idea.

Even if you are not considering selling the item. At least people looking for items named to these people will be able to find them and end thier search and become obsessed with something else laugh.gif .

You could then make an agreement to inform them if and/or when you are ready to dispose of them.

Keep up the good work.

Excellent postings all. Remember it is not really necessary to add if it is a medal, plaque, badge certificate etc. You need not even add rank, unit, number or full name just his sir name and initial.
Its really up to you.
Either way well done!!
Keep them coming.

Tom , this thread is a great credit to you.
Roland. smile.gif

Thank you Roland.
Lead by example is my motto. The applause is really due to the forum pals who decided to list the awards. I realise it is almost impossible for some collectors to get their head around this idea and that is why the credit is really due to them.
Let me just say again that there is no reason to list unit number rank first name or the type of award held just his second name and initial. I was thinking of contacting the Irish dealers and ask them if they would give me a list to post of the medals they are going to bring to the next fair using the same format, initial and last name ..................I will try anyway, some dealers are wary of anything out of the ordinary.
I will throw out a few 'feelers' today and report back.
Regards.

It is so nice to see so many Forum Pals list their collections.
Roland. smile.gif

Great to see more forum pals listing their awards to ww1 personnel. However I am dissapointed with the non-communication from the Irish dealers, even if they replied just to tell me to feck off!!! (can I say feck here?). Their silence is deafening.
There are two fairs coming up in November in Dublin. I will collect the names of available death plaques at each and test the water regarding posting the available medal names.
Keep the names coming in guys and gals.
Much appreciated.
Regards.
