The newest Project to be inaugurated is the International Wargraves
Photography Project, developed to capture photos of headstones of wargraves
of all nations, to include wargraves and also headstones of military
veterans. The Project does not seek funding, nor does it accept donations
or any kind. It is 100% volunteer driven and all photos taken by Associates
are readily emailed to anyone requesting them. As of December 7, 2006 the
Project has 1,117,318 records and 427, 485 photos uploaded. The Project is
supported with web space by FindAGrave.com, the largest collection of
genealogical records, personal photographs and headstone photos in the
world.

Anyone wishing to participate may upload their photos to FindAGrave for all
to see and/or seek assistance in uploading from the Associates of the
Project who are eager to assist.

Any questions may be sent to Gary E Nelson (BattlefieldPhotographer) at
jeep113@verizon.net .

Just wondered if you have any tie-up with the British War Graves Project and the similar Commonwealth projects?

The question 'Why?' comes to mind ....

I agree.

Ever decreasing circles comes to mind.

Alternatively, wasted and duplicated effort.

I think- 1 man, 1 grave marker etc picture.

The IWPP fills in the gaps. Currently uploaded are Commonwealth, South African and Colonial photos as previously referred to, as well as German, Dutch, French, Belgian, Danish, Portuguese, Indian, Italian, Moroccan...the list will only grow.

Anyone posting through the Project controls their own uploads. Searches are external and come through regularly on search engine inquiries. Memorial pages are given "editing rgiths" by those who upload them. There are 200,000 contributors to FindAGrave who are willing to help with the larger projects. A small team is currently working in Langemark German Cemetery.

As for duplication, the greater the exposure of the Fallen the better.

There is no need for requests for funding as the site exists and will for a long time to come. All that is required is the continuing devotion to the Fallen that currently exists.

If someone has photos already contributed to the seasoned projects and feels this is duplication, it is their photo and their right to decide. If in the course of their photography they come across a grave that does not fit the seasoned projects FindAGrave would be a proper memorial site.

The other projects are well seasoned. The IWPP is 18 months along and is moving towards 500,000 photos and over 1.1 million records for counbtires in the first paragraph. Not too shabby for the "new kid on the block". Another benefit of a site that has 200,000 contributors.

My thanks to all who posted to this point giving an opportunity for me to explain further.

No John, no longer anyway. It was a matter of being told what I could do with photographs I took. 40,000 photos taken in the Ypres Salient were rejected, and I began placing them on FindAGrave, and the IWPP grew from there. Better to leave it there as that experience is water under the bridge.

Thanks for the information, Gary

Clearly more to it than meets the eye. I'll just wish you well, in that case.
