I have just started checking my photos taken at Niederzwerhen Cemetery on May 20-22nd 2007 and straight away I have found a mystery soldier .Perhaps some of you Major Generals can help this new boy who may have missed a topic on this problem.
My man
42671 Private S. Hackett
D.L.I died 2/10/1918
He lies in Row 1A grave 14 He does not seem to exist on the Cemetery list or the CWGC Casualty List.
I have found typographical error here and there putting two men in the same grave because of a missing 1 i.e. Row B.1 grave 1 instead of 11. Are other errors common when going through the lists? It must be one heck of a job getting better as digitisation takes over provided updates take place on transfer from written to computer words. Are there people volunteers working for the CWCG to try to spot these problems similar to proof readers?

At your service, lance corporal.
You do, indeed, seem to have found an unusual one as I can't find him listed either. The Forum has arrnagements with the Commission about errors - co-ordinated by Terry Denham. I've dropped him a note drawing his attention to the thread. Obviously something that slipped thouhg the net when reocrds were digitised.

Seems as though it must have been a simple typo in the original written records (which is why he's at the beginning of the Hs) - and then transferred when it was digitised. Should be straightforward to sort out.

Thank you Gentlemen,
I shall sleep in peace in the knowledge that we all now know of Private Huckett's headstone non-de-plume (Hackett) for the time being. I knew the Generals would be there to support us lower ranks. My Wife will be told in the morning as she too could not believe there was an unregistered soldier buried in the cemetery.
The CWGC have been very good to me regarding changes to a headstone in this cemetery for a living relative of mine. As I said if this sort of simple error can be spotted and put forward to them, I am sure it will be appreciated. Can their offices be visited? I would like a guided tour if it was possible.
