The photograph attached is of three unknown men. I have been told that they may be relatives. The navel man was on board HMS Peel Castle. Now I do Known a little of the history of this ship and how it was deployed during World War One. I would like to know if there is any way of finding the names of individual crew members who served on this ship. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello clouter,
The Peel Castle was an ABS (hired) from 28/10/14 to 10/5/19 and lost only 3 men :
LITTLE, ALEXANDER, FIREMAN, Mercantile Marine Reserve, 15-Jun-15, ILLNESS.
STEEL, JOHN, TY/LT, RNVR, 07-Feb-16, FIRE IN SHIP.
MCCARTHY, WILLIAM H., TRIMMER, Mercantile Marine Reserve, 949682, 15-Feb-18, ACCIDENT.
Best wishes
David

I have been to the Isle of man site and read the article there. It is very intresting and I have learnt a lot more about HMS Peel castle during the war. The British medal forum I have to say left me a little perplexed what is TNA and MFA crews? Any way thanks kath for the info. I would dearly like to know though if those three men are my relatives. they do look like two brothers and their Father.

TNA = The National Archives.
MFA = Mercantile Fleet Auxiliary.
The sailor & soldier are very alike.

Hello Kath,unfortunately the Peel Castle logs ADM53/54704 & 53/54705 misses out 01/01/1916 to 31/07/1916 which covers the date of the fire 07/02/1916 plus the re-fit period. I am trying to find the service record of a 15/16 year old Scout who was on board at the time of the fire-J.W.Tomkins.
Josiah, born 03/02/1900, eventually signed on for the RN at Chatham on 12/02/1918 serving on the Superb until demob on 31/05/1919. Apart from a metal ID disc with his name on the top edge, Scout on bottom edge and HMS PEEL CASTLE in the centre we have no documentation.However, an added
comment on his RN record sheet after occupation-Painter is (Coach Guard), this,from "scouting milestones",should be Coast Guard being the main task scouts did during WW1.
Another added item written in the same hand as the comment is a P.I.C. or P.J.C. No 309080. Can you or anyone else help with this ?
