hi,
some years ago,i spent some time on the ypres salient, visiting the various cemeteries, museums, and the like.
on of these visits was to hill 60,with its small museum.
this was my first trip to the area, and what i was immiediatly taken with the "rough and ready" museum-come-bar at this site.nothing squeaky clean, just rusting remains behind chicken wire enclousures,or more preserved items in old glass cases.
what i delighted in was having to ,sort of,go behind the bar to go into the museum-it was like nothing id visited before.
for years,my dad and i have had countless remenicences about just how much wed enjoyed the experience of visiting that site-to us,it was unique.
i was stunned to see pictures of the the new HILL 60 restuarant today.the museum-gone.knocked down.
no more looking at that messy, topsy turvy mish mash of curios then enjoying a glass of excellent belgian beer afterwards.no sir....
instead,i can look foreward to paying over the odds for food in a new eating establishment.!!!!!

hoo-b....y-ray.

progress.....keep it.

hi liam,
yes,the hills still there, which,i know,is the most important part of a visit to this site.
whilst walking on it,its difficult to grasp whats under ones feet.it defies belief.on my first visit to ypres, hill 60 was one of the first sites i visited and it left me cold-and feeling very fortunate that i havent had to take part in anything similiar in my lifetime.

You weren't the last to know! I'm shocked. How sad that it's gone. It was one of my favorites too. That and the "Old" Clothe Hall Museum which was a bigger version. I'm hoping the Sanctuary Wood Hill 62 Museum is still there? I've heard Hooge Museum might be closing. Cheers, Bill

There was a topic on this a few months back too.

Does anyone have an update as to whether a buyer has been found to take over Hooge?

Hi,

heard yesterday at Ypres that no new buyer was found yet.
