Could a pal tell me where the IR 56 were positioned during the first day of Loos please

The German 56th infantry regiment were part of the 14th division, and on the opening day of the battle of Loos were positioned north of the La Bassee canal opposite the British 5th brigade (2nd division) at Givenchy.

Are we looking at the 2nd South Staffs down to the Middlesex regt at Arthurs keep,

The 2nd South Staffs(6th brigade) and the 1st Middlesex (19th brigade) were both south of the La Bassee canal opposite the German 16th infantry regiment.The 5th Brigade consisted of :-
1st Queens.
2nd Ox and Bucks.
1/7th kings.
2nd Worcesters.
2nd Highland Light infantry.
1/9th Highland Light infantry.

Thanks for clearing that up Anthony, the map didnt give a north or south direction. Do any pals know what trench/trenches the 56th held.

The small map i have shows Ducks Bill and canal trench as those occupied by the German 56th.

The maps I have confirm that, stretching form the canal in the south to opposite the Indian Corp, round Rue d'Ouvert, in the north.
