It seems there are about six - seven Pals living in Canberra or the immediate area. Anyone interested in meeting up?
Cheers

GallipoliNut
Sure. I'm up for it.

G'day Crunchy
I live in Sydney but would be interested if time and date was suitable.
I have a slight hope of being in Canberra in late March or some time around Rememberance Day.
Keep me informed and I will see what I can do.
(I did try to arrange a meeting of Sydney based GWF members some time back and received a positive response but all my plans went fubar.
Good luck

With you in spirit.

Crunchy,

I will be in Canberra for a week between 2 - 9 March (escaping from PNG for a sanity break!). I feel a beer coming on!

Mark
Crunchy
Thanks Mark. That makes three

Tentative dates either Tue 4th or Fri 7th Mar. Which suits best?

Gallipoli Nut and Mark. Are you northside or southside? I was thinking either Olim's Hotel, cnr Ainslie and Limestone Ave's near the AWM or the Kingston Pub.

Cheers
Chris

Chris,

Either night is fine with me. I'll be staying in Barton, and will have wheels. Both the Kingo and Olims are old watering holes of mine, so I am very familiar with both. Tuesday night at the Kingo is steak night from recollection.

Regards,

Mark

G'day Crunchy,
unfortunatley both dates are out for me but I hope that we can meet sometime in the future.
Best wishes

G'day Chrs,,
My wife and I will be in Canberra (from Bathurst) at the end of this week 28th Feb, Fri to Monday. Usually stay at Olims, but looking at staying at the Brassey for a change.

Anyone know anything about it?

Regards
Nige
Glyn Llanwarne
Hi Nige,

The Brassy is similar to Olims. They were built about the same time so the decor and facilities are similar (I'm talking about the front section of Olims not the newer rear section). I stayed at The Brassy about two years ago, the rooms were ok but neat and clean. I now try to stay at other places with a bit better facilities as I work a lot from my room when I'm in Canberra.

Speaking of which, Chris, I was in Canberra last week but didn't have the opportunity to catch up with you. Hope all is well.

Any of us Mexicans from way down south of the border get an invite???

Cheers,

GallipoliNut
Chris,

I'm a north-sider, Olims would be great for me. But I have a car, so Kingston isn't too far out of the way either. As for your other qn, I'll send off an email to the others and see if I get any response.
PeterWilliams
I'll be in the meeting in Canberra. 4 or 7 March is fine, prefer Olims but can range further afield. Evening for a serious meeting or daytime for shandys?

Of Course Sherlock.

We in Canberra are an enclave that takes Mexican refugees hounded by the Waratahs.

You are very welcome to come if you are in town. Are you able to make it?

Cheers

Glyn,

Not a problem. Would have loved to have caught up with you and discussed the old times at NORCOM.

Give me call next time you are in town.

Chris
Crunchy
OK.

looks like we have six takers at this stage - Rhys, Nige, Mark, Peter, Bill and self with a possible from Tim (aka Sherlock).

Lets go for Tue 4 March, as that is best for Nige, 5:30pm at Olims as that is the favoured watering hole. For those who are out of town Olims is on the corner of Limestone Ave and Ainslie Ave, Ainslie, just down from the AWM going north on Limestone Ave.

Let's meet in the front bar. Sign "The white rabbit eats cabbage leaves", counter sign "Broomers is a London Scot". Sorry I was getting carried away.

Cheers
Chris
Ozzie
Chris, it might be an idea to privately get everyone's mobile number.
This came in handy for us at a meetup, where in a busy bar, some where unsure of who was who! or to help those that may not be used to Canberra's peculiar roads.
Would love to come, but just started a new job, so must decline your invite.

Hope you all have a great time.

Cheers
Kim
Markess
Chris,

Tuesday at Olims it is. See you in the front bar.

S@@T, S@@t,

Don't do this date because of me.
Today, I was asked to be back at work on Wednesday, meaning I will be leaving Canberra on Tuesday morning. Damn.

Sorry
Nige
Ozzie
Oops, just saw the appropriate words, immediate area!
Would have claimed 3 hrs away as immediate, if I could have got there!
Have a great time guys.
Look forward to catching up with you again one day, Chris.

Cheers
Kim

PS Nige, and Pop, you'll get there one day! smile.gif

PPSS You take Mexicans!!!
Crunchy
Kim,

You are always welcome. Good idea about the mobiles, will do. With my photo in the Canberra Times today for the opening of the Post 45 Galleries, some should recognise me.

Nige,

Not a problem Mate. Sorry you cannot make it. I think Tuesday is better day for all of us - without the end of week crowd we should be able to hear ourselves talk and taxis are easier to get home.

Sean (Pop)
Let us know when you are next in town and we will see if we can get a group together.

Any further takers?

Cheers
Chris
Aaron Pegram
Hey guys,

I'm a Belconnen kid, and would love to meet some of you and see what research interests you have. I work not far from Olims, so thats not a problem at all.

Date, time, and im there.

Cheers,

Aaron
Crunchy

Sounds like a good reason to spend some time out of Goulburn so more than likely take a wander up. Anyone that wants my mobile please PM me only too happy to give it.

hi guys,
my apologies, i wont be able to make is this arvo. sorry for the late notice.

Cheers,

Markess
Like Aaron, I must offer my apologies albeit belatedly! The conference I am attending went a little longer than expected today and unfortunately it would have been inappropriate for me to have just walked out, especially given my role in it.

I will be In Canberra until Saturday morning and head back to the wilds of PNG on Monday. If I can be forgiven, I could catch up with some of you on Friday evening. If not, I understand because of late notice etc.

Again my apologies.

Mark
Crunchy
Mark and Aaron,

Not to worry. Four of us got together and had a few beers and an animated discussion. We agreed to get together in a couple of months time - early May, same watering hole. Meet in the Beer Garden.

Proposed date is Tue 6 May.

Cheers
Chris

I'm trying to get to Melbourne in the next few months. Nowhere near Canberra...but I'm hoping someone might be in the vicinity at least.

Allie
Ozzie
Allie you let us know a date and we'll make sure you meet some of us!!!
For better or worse. tongue.gif

Cheers mate

I think we can agree that ...erm... fruit salad... won't be on the subject matter list. wink.gif

Just waiting for the good ticket deals to come on sale. They had $85 return tickets to Melbourne awhile back, but my blinking passport had expired. And now the hubby doesn't really feel like paying any more than that, since he's seen how cheap it can be. rolleyes.gif

I'm out for the week of 17th May, local stuff. But free for any other dates.

Hi Guys,

Chris Henschke is visiting Canberra for two weeks from 28 Apr.

It was suggested after the last meeting that we get together at 5:30pm Tue 6th May at Olim's. I have invited Chris to join us.

Anyone got any objections to moving it to the Kingston Pub this time round as those who are interested, including Chris, can get a meal there.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris,

Whats this, another meeting of Canberra pals? Just got back into town-with the mud of Ramilles still on my boots. What is the Kingo? Where exactly is that?

Dammit! I just noticed the revival of this thread while you guys are sinking schooies at the Kingo. Sorry I couldn't make it guys. My apologies again.

Meanwhile, if any of you spend Saturday afternoons in the RC of the AWM I'm the young bloke with the blue laptop. Come over and say g'day.

Aaron

Chris

Apologies for not making it. Came down with a bad case of jetlag and slept from 3pm til 8pm then could not sleep all night. Who fronted and what was discussed? Is there a date for another meeting?

Peter

Crunchy
Peter,

No problems. Understand the jet lag.

Five turned up: Chris Henschke, Gallipoli Nut, Mr Bush, David Cameron and self. Generals discussion plus the work that David, Rhys and Chris are working on: August Offensive and Celtic Wood.

No meeting planned at this stage.

Cheers
Chris
Mr Bush
Crunchy,
It was a pleasure to meet you and the others on Tuesday. I look forward to catching up with you all and reading both David and Chris's books when they come out. I went looking for the 25th of April 1915 at the AWM but they are all sold out.

Cheers Mr Bush
