Hi all

i came across this grave in Alveley, Shropshire in 2007.
His name doesn't appear on the local memorial, such young age to die.

Not sure what i can do with it, but any thoughts by you folks as to what i can do .......if anything?

Thanks must be made to my friend Jemma, co-founder of our soon to be Shropshrie Virtual War Memorial , who originally found this grave

You need to prove he was in service at the time of death. You will need to get his death certificate.

Once you get that, GWF can take up the case for you.

ShropshireMad
Excellent

Will do Terry, i'll add to the thread once i recieve the cert.

Hi there,
I have been researching this gravestone for a fair few years - and so pleased the mystery is now solved.
John was the youngest son of the village parish priest Rev Francis Gatliff.
I would love to know more ??
John was given a "very fine" funeral farewell , one in Dartmouth and then in Alveley ! ( reported in great detail in the Bridgnorth Journal)

Now for a new mystery - Rev Gatliff donated generously to the Alveley War Memorial but his son's name is'nt on it ???
