East African Units - Supply Corps and Transport Corps

Recommended Posts

Can anyone point me to information about the East Africa(n) Supply Corps and the East Africa(n) Motor/MechanicalTransport Corps? Formation, manpower, areas of operation, equipment, personnel lists, disbandment, etc. - anything really!

Robert Vernon Talbot served with the EASC (Lance-Corporal - no number) before commission as a Lieutenant in the 4th Battalion King's African Rifles on 4th February 1916. By searching the monthly Army Lists I finally found RVT serving at the Depot of what was then the 6th Regiment KAR, but I have nothing about his time with the Supply Corps.1914-15 Star with the EASC, BWM and VM with the KAR.

George Blaquiere Talbot served with the EAMTC (Acting-Corporal 2335). BWM and VM.

They were brothers, and resided at their father's Kakonde Tea Plantation at Mityana, near Kampala, Uganda.

Thank you.

I'm sure there would be something in the National Archives at Kew.

You can search their database online at http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Specifically, using the search words "East Africa Supply Corps"  and "WO95" (the code for War Diaries), brings up this (and some South African references):

http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/dda954d6bf674a6882cdbed0527fa677

Broadening the search, it looks as though the file WO95/5377 contains lots of information about supply, including diaries for some ASC companies.

The FIBIS Fibiwiki page East Africa (First World War) http://wiki.fibis.org/index.php/East_Africa_(First_World_War)  includes the following: (click on coloured text for links)

Military operations : East Africa: Volume I August 1914-September 1916 compiled by Charles Hordern 1941 Hathi Trust Digital Library.

The index, page  594, mentions Supply and Transport

The Index to Units etc , page 603, mentions Transport Corps, East Africa Mechanical.

Cheers
