Remembering 40220 Private Arthur Spreadborough and Sgt W Poole who were both KIA 7th June 1917 during the Battle of Messines.

Arthur (left in the attached photo with his brother) was first driver of a "male" Mk IV tank of No. 12 Section, "A" Battalion, Heavy Branch Machine Gun Corps which was attached to 47th Division (X Corps) on 7th June. The tank A59 2024 was commanded by 2nd Lt. Harold Duckett who was seriously wounded fairly early on during the action. The tank was then detailed to attack the White Chateau, Hollebeke in support of 7th London Regiment. It ended up ditched there. 76366 Sgt. W Poole and Arthur were killed whilst trying to dig the tank out, the unditching gear having failed to release them. 77058 Gnr. T Bellamy was wounded.

Never forgotten.
