Photo Offer - Jerusalem War Cemetery and Palestine

Recommended Posts

brummell

I'll be visiting Israel in a couple of weeks, with a visit to Jerusalem War Cemetery definitely scheduled in.  I'll also be going to the Beersheba and Megiddo battlefields (exact locations in these areas not yet set in stone) and to the Golan Heights. Very happy to oblige with any photo requests for Jerusalem, and to see what I can do for requests in the other areas.

Linda - consider it done.  The memorial stands inside in the cemetery.

Hi - brummel, no photo requests but this time century ago my Grandfather was on his way starting from Larkhill through Palestine to Jerusalem with the RFA (part of 75th Division). You might be interested in the diary I'm uploading and can send you the contemporary maps.

Landscape I'm sure these days is very different but if you see anything related to 405 Bty RFA / 37 Bde or wider formation I'd be interested. If not - just for your information and have good trip.

I have 3 names on the Jerusalem War Memorial if you are able to get them.

The only other one I have in the vicinity is at the Jerusalem Protestant Cemetery if thats anywhere near. Here are the details if you can get there.

Acknowledged all - and I will see if I can get to Jerusalem Protestant Cemetery. It seems there is a little work to do to gain access to it.

Hi Brummell. I haven't seen it mentioned but will you be visiting Deir El Belah War Cemetery? If so I'd very much like:

Many thanks

Diane - I suspect the Gaza Strip is off limits to us but I will certainly bear Deir El Belah in mind if we are nearby.

Brummell - if you are able to manage it the London Irish Rifles panel on the Jerusalem Memorial please. Also, if possible, the building that was the British Hospital behind the Mount of Olives.

Greatly appreciated if you are able to do so.

Hi Brummell,

If possible I'd love photos of the headstones at Jerusalem War Cemetery for:

CHISLETT H J W  Berkshire Yeomanry  X. 43.
EMBLING F G  Berkshire Yeomanry  X. 42.
HEWETT H Royal Flying Corps X. 35.
MATTHEWS S B Machine Gun Corps D. 82.
POUNDS  E B G  Machine Gun Corps U. 11.
SMITH R T  Machine Gun Corps  D. 94.

I do have decent photos of a couple (it's always good to have more), so-so photos of two more - but none for Chilsett or Embling.

On the Jerusalem Memorial I would like close ups (the name plus a couple more above and below) of:

BULLIVANT R P  Captain  Middlesex Hussars    Panel 4.
GALE F  Corporal  Berkshire Yeomanry    Panel 4.
HEMMINGS F  Private Hampshire Regiment  1st/8th Panels 28 and 29.
PERRING T H H  Private  Devonshire Regiment  5th Bn.  Panel 16.

If you get to Ramleh War Cemetery then the headstone of:

BAKER A J Hampshire Regiment Q. 49.

Any you can get would be much appreciated.

Phil

Unfortunately the weather during our visit to Jerusalem War Cemetery was pretty terrible (cold, windy, fairly heavy rain) so the study group I was with didn’t linger long enough for me to get around all the requests made here.  I didn’t have time to include the memorial panels, or to find the grave of Sidney Hunt.  For the people hoping for these, I am sorry to disappoint you.

The photos can be found at the link below:
