Hi Memorialhunter, on the Bromsberrow Memorial, I have some details on Pte. William Chamberlain.

He was Pte. W. Chamberlain 20309 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. Killed in Action 27th August 1917. He has no known grave and is remembered by us and on the Tyne Cot memorial in Belgium. It is a daunting project you have undertaken and may take you years, well done! Anyone that is a Worcestershire soldier or you suspect to be, I should be able to help you.

Best wishes Mike

Hi Mike

Many thanks for your e-mail, Yes it will take years, I will not see it finished. I know there are others doing the same as me but the War Memorials are getting weather damaged and the names will be lost for ever so they have to be done.

Regards

Alf

Yes like Memorial Man Martin I wondered what the web address of your War Memorials site was.

It is the Longton War Memorial I have an interest in.

Father & son - Thomas & Harold Thomas Ridge are on it.

Hi Jane

I have pasted what I have on your men which may not be correct. This memorial have many service men who have been doubled up and the names on the memorial are given are in this format, A Ridge, H Ridge and so on and sometimes it is a hit or miss if you get the correct one. However it does give the Regt etc they were in. The information below may not be correct. If you can add or correct any thing it would be appreciated.

Alf

RIDGE Alfred Sgt 2051 5th North Staffs Regt died 1/7/1916 age 23. Son of Thomas & Mary Ann 59 Buccleuch Road Normacot Longton. Commemorated at Foncquevillers Military Cemetery France I.L.21

RIDGE Harry Pte 3245 B Cot 1/5th North Staffs Regt died 13/10/1915 age 25. Son of William 22 ridge Street Sandford Hill Longton. Commemorated at Loos Memorial France

RIDGE Harold Thomas Gunner 1531205 7/4th Maritime Regt Royal Artillery died 11/7/1942. Commemorated at Plymouth Naval Memorial Devon

RIDGE Arthur Pte 13434 7th North Staffs Regt died 5/4/1916. Commemorated at Basra Memorial Iraq. Note this may not be the correct person. One has already been found( see above) and the one below is a double of one of them

Hi,

What a great deal of information,

I have a relative who was KIA France/Flander 3rd October 1918 William Joseph Jones, Born Smethwick, Staff, Served with the 1/6th South Staff Regiment, but i cant seem to find him mentioned on any memorial in the county of Staffs, He is on a war memorial in Vis en Artois in France.

Would you be able to shed some light on this for me. It would be really nice to know if he is remembered by the county he served.

Thanks

Sharon  .

Ian, have sent pm can do a look up in the sentinel as there is an entry for Gnr T Stanley 22nd Sept 1917

Memorialhunter,

For me a timely debut! I am just in the process of helping a friend research his grandfather, who was KIA in 1917.

Gunner Thomas Stanley, Royal Field Artillery.

He came from Fenton, Staffs.

I wonder whether you know if he appears on a local memorial? Maybe for Stoke?

Thanks

Ian

Dear Memorial Hunter,

What a fantastic job.

Do you, by any happy chance, have a database cross reference to the regiments / units of your lists of men.

I have a list of MGC men I'd like to know more about. The problem with them is that they came from all over the country so I wouldn't know if they were Staffs, Gloucs or anywhere else.
